Things we don't need anymore

Two of the all-time great airlines. Pan American airlines folded in 1991, ten years before Stanley Kubrick's movie vision of the airline becoming a spaceline shuttling passengers to an orbiting station above the earth's atmosphere in "2001: a space odyssey." Trans World Airlines officially ended in the year 2001 when the bankrupt company was bought by American Airlines. Another connection to Kubrick was the remarkable JFK terminal, whose corridors are referenced in the space station sequences in the "2001" movie. Built by Eero Saarinen in 1962, the building (Terminal 5) could not adapt to increased airport security measures and has been sporadically used since then. Also sad is the Pam Am terminal at JFK which is now used by Delta and the building is in a very sorry state, shared by passengers, pigeons and sparrows.
