Yes, more Fairports. Has Richard Thompson been on more albums than any other English person ever? Is he the British Neil Young? What's with the Muslim schtick? Resisting hyperbole (right!) he will become regarded as one of the most important influences of the popular music in the 20th Century. Just not quite yet.

Crowded House Melbourne concert

Here is a link to 10 songs from a Crowded House fan club concert recorded at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne, Australia. For more information go to the Frenz Wire blog. For a direct link to the videos, go here on the Triple M radio website.

Genesis tickets through the years

Genesis concerts. Missing a Peter Gabriel-lead show in 1974 from the "Selling England by the Pound" tour at the New Theatre, Oxford, England, which I guess would have been in the one pound sterling range. The New York Beacon show, Phil Collins's first tour as lead singer on the "Trick of the Tale" tour, was a $6.50 ticket (1976). The Hammersmith Odeon show on the same tour was the equivalent of $4 in exchange rates of the time. The 1977 "Seconds Out" show at Earl's Court could roughly be translated as a $10 ticket. The 1980 tour at Madison Square Garden -- worst seats in the house -- $8.50. 2007 Madison Square Garden best seats, $275. Will post the ticket when I can find it!

Ah, a whole lotta Fairport Convention. Becoming more interesting by the year. Liege and Lief set the stage and launched the reputation. Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson’s finest moments. Denny passed on. Thompson, and his ex-wife Linda are still making very powerful, interesting records. Not my area of knowledge, so I won’t bluff it. But I like what I hear. 20 years ago, I would not have thought that!

Here’s a Truveo link to a lot of Fairport Convention and Richard Thompson videos.

Concert from August 18th at the House of Blues, with annoying commercials every two or three songs, but it is nicely shot.

Crowded House at the Masonic Hall, West 23rd Street NYC

Great show from the reformed Crowded House, recorded for a tv broadcast. Very loose. Nice moment when an improv of "Tomorrow Never Knows" popped up in the encore.

The set list:

People are like suns
Locked out
Nobody wants to
Don't stop now
Distant sun
Heaven that I'm making
You're the one to make me cry
Pineapple head (w. "hava nagila" break)
Fall at your feet
She called up
Transit lounge
Silent house
Pour le monde
It's a good room now (improv on Masonic Lodge auditorium)
When you come
Mean to me

Encore 1
Tea for two (really!)
Something so strong
Better be home soon
Don't dream it's over

Encore 2
Fingers of love
Recurring dream
Spill the wine
Four seasons in one day

(Kindly provided by Frenzforum)

Here's a crude video of what the Masonic room looked like. A great venue for this kind of a performance. Opened with Mark Hart playing the organ at the back of the balcony.

Here is coverage of the concert, including photos, on the Hidden Track blog.

Here are some links to videos that were recorded for AOL's Spinner site.

Last Monday, the band appeared on KCRW in Santa Monica on "All Things Eclectic." A video and audio of the performance is available here.

Here is a session and interview they did for Radio New Zealand. Fun to hear the stronger kiwi accents! In the words of the station:

Live from Neil Finn's Roundhead Studio, the band talk to Afternoon host Jim Mora, and perform Pour Le Monde, People Are Like Suns, and Fall At Your Feet. Engineered by Neil Baldock. Thanks to Roundhead and EMI. 13 July 2007. Here is the link.
