Best of Detroit via Latvia
Stiff Records superstar Lene Lovich with Les Chappell and some unidentified band-member (maybe a Sincero) in action at Hurrah, New York City in the early 1980s. Photo would have been taken with an Olympus OM1. Film would be pushed Kodak Tri-X. She's back playing a show at the Knitting Factory this weekend. (c) Adrian Bryan-Brown

Let's See Action
Pete Townshend's website has a really nice little Quicktime movie, complete with backstage wacky antics (as much as you might expect from "The Two") recorded on the recent European tour (Bonn, Germany) of "Let's See Action." It's here.

Elvis Lives in Guildford
Elvis Costello on the "Stiff Live Stiffs Tour" with naughty Attraction Bruce Thomas on bass. The running order changed each night on the tour with each headliner (apart from Elvis and Ian Dury) enjoying shared backing band-members, which meant that Ian Dury drummed for Wreckless Eric (Goulden), and other had multiple chores. The line-up was Larry Wallis (ex-Pink Fairies) with guest star Nick Lowe on bass, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Wreckless Eric and Elvis Costello and the Attractions. At the end of the show everyone was meant to go onstage to sing "Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll." I don't recall Elvis joining in on this particular night in Guildford. Probably shot on Diafine pushed Kodak TriX at 1600 ASA with an Olympus OM1.

GOOGLE GOES VIDEO
Here are some fun rock 'n' roll clips from Google. The CBC Retro Bite 60 second interview with the Rolling Stones from 1965 is interesting because Brian Jones is without question the leader and dominant speaker in the group. The longer clip of the Rolling Stones on the Red Skelton show is cringe-inducing as the square Skelton trips into a crowd of screaming teeny girls and is rudely jossled in the lobby of the Palladium in London. Everyone seems to thing it was the Rolling Stones first US television appearance -- 1964. The Red Skelton Show: Season 14, Episode 02, part of which may be on a new compilation of Skelton shows.
The Jane Birkin "I lurve Paris" clip from CNN is important because it has shots of her with her bulldog Dora (not French).

Here's a link to another great French Bulldog -- FOB (friend of Bubbles). Honey is on the Greenberg Kingsley advertising agency site. I promise it's quite adorable. And if you need a quick link to the much discussed and highly topical Tom Cruise South Park show, here's a link to You Tube. Don't know how long this will stay up. "I have doubts. I have such doubts."

This is all over the theatre and entertainment websites, which I think is a good thing. On Jim Steinman's blogsite, a demo of the Joker's song, "Wonderful Toys" from the suspected new musical "Batman" is posted as an mp3. As always, a gazillion pop culture references from "To Tell the Truth," to The Doors' "The End," and Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The Sound of Music." The song is actually very reminescent of The Tubes' "What do you Want from Life." I think Jim Steinman will write a great pop musical one day.
Now brilliantbutcancelled.com is my idea of a very satifisying use of modern tech. Currently featured is an episode of "Johnny Staccato" a really snappy Hollywood-noir show from 1959 starring John Cassavettes and guesting a young Elizabeth Montgomery. I saw it mentioned in a Wall Street Journal piece a couple of days ago (no point in linking because you have to subscribe) about networks developing broad-band sites and the need for web-appropriate content. brilliantbutcancelled.com is a wonderful extension of network tv (run by NBC). SIG Spectrum is Green.
